Paints and coatings
Several MELWIT products ranging from ultra fine to coarse are commonly used in a number of paint and coating applications. They are used as bulkanising products (extenders), to either enhance gloss, reduce costs of extenders by being used as part replacement of titanium dioxide, film enhancers for wall masters and flow promoters (rheology).
In general, MELWIT products significantly improve paint properties such as sheen, opacity (covering power) and wear resistance. Fineness and particle-size distribution affect the opacity of coatings and rheology.
Moreover, calcium carbonate offers interesting properties with regards to high brightness, low oil absorption, dispersal, weather resistance, low abrasiveness, pH stabilizing effect, and improved anti-corrosion and rheological properties as applied in priming (primer products). They also offer better filling properties to reduce film sinking especially for porous surfaces.
