MELWIT products may be used with a myriad of thermoplastic resins. Polypropylene compounds are often filled with our GCC to increase rigidity, an important requirement for operations at high temperatures. In PVC, MELWIT is used with flexible compounds such as tubing, wire and cable insulation, latex gloves, trash bags and in rigid compounds such as extruded pipes.
Ground calcium carbonate is one of the most popular mineral fillers used in the plastics industry. As an additive in plastic compounds, ground calcium carbonate helps to decrease surface energy in plastics. MELWIT products ranging from fine to ultra-fine are used in plastic manufacture as functional fillers.
Their inclusion provides opacity and surface gloss, whichimproves surface finish. They add density, improve on rheology (flow properties) and reduces the cost of production of the plastics. Our products are also blended or “coated” with additives such as stearates to aid bonding within the plastic during manufacture. These stearic acid coated MELWIT grades are used in the manufacture of conduit electrical pipes (to increase the insulation effect) and high-grade PVC pipes.
